Grid systems: Magazine Concepts

For my grid systems class we are getting ready to do magazine spreads, and we had to do 3 little concept boards in Illustrator this week. We got to choose what kind we want to do so I choose Tattoo and Fashion.

Granted I'm still looking for somethings for my Tattoo concepts but this is what I have so far. I had to come up with a sketch of the layout that I am wanting to do and then find examples. I have a couple tattoo mags so Ive been looking through those and scanning them into my computer, that's why I don't have too many examples for those yet.

Christina's little girl Kira got to play with Busa a little bit today, they love each other its so cute. We took some pics, and I managed to get a video. It was a precious moment coming back from getting the mail.

Here's the video I took with my phone, sorry it's side ways.

Casual Fridays

Friday's are my favorite days (normally) due to the fact that I get to spend the weekend with my Hubby and we get to chill and spend time with each other. But this quarter that's not the case, Fridays are my long days. I wanted to be comfortable but without wearing a dress or being too dressy, so I decided to wear one of my favorite shirts. The thing is I can't remember who made it to save my life. I remember buying it online from an artist like 3 or 4 years ago, and that's about it. It makes me sad because I would love to have more shirts by this person. It is a drawing of a tree and hanging from the tree is a heart with a big blue eye on it. It is really cool because it literally looks like they drew right on the shirt and you can see all the cross hatching and such. My pants, I just recently got from Forever 21, very comfy and have 3 buttons on the bottom of each leg. My teal hat my mom bought for me, its my favorite that I have. While it is cold outside I have noticed that I favor Teal and Mustard the most (well... maybe all the time), I just seem to notice it more when it's cold.
Thursday night as I was getting ready for bed my dear friend, and neighbor, texted me and offered me chocolate chip and reeses  cookies. (!!!) I was so surprised and jumped up and went over there. I was home just long enough to lock the door and one cookie had been devoured. I have to say they were AMAZING!! Best midnight snack ever. Sorry, my fat kid is showing. :)

My Great Grandma's: red purse

This is one of the many things that I got after my Grands passed away. It does have a thin strap, but the left loop fell off awhile ago and haven't fixed it. Its bigger than it seems in the pictures, its about a foot wide and 10 inches long, and bright red (as you can see, lol).
I've been thinking about making some purses like it, hopefully it wont be too hard. It is a little dirty from using it in high school with my pen caps getting lost, but I still love it. Every so often I'll post something that was my Grands' since she was so special to me, and I feel like it is a way of appreciating her even though she's not with us anymore.

Last night when I was working on my laptop sleeve I was using some Wal-mart thread I got a while back to sew chevrons on some marine uniforms and it kept jamming my machine. So for those who sew, avoid Wal- mart. Granted I'm not one for buying much from Wal-mart but that was what was close and I didn't know we had a fabric store.

Here's a picture of my lovely puppy Busa. :)
I figured I post a picture of him, since he has been so wonderful today. :)

Finished Laptop Sleeve

I am super excited that my laptop fits and it looks good. Didn't have many issue with it. I didn't understand the end of the tutorial so I did how I was taught and how I do my cosmetic bags. I am proud of this laptop sleeve and I love the print, love, love, love it.

This is the best picture I could get of the outfit I was wearing with me only being able to take the pictures. Basically, I'm wearing a blue dress (from Forever 21) with a Hello Kitty tank top over it (from Forever 21), with black stockings (from Target), black boots with a little bow and a black 100% wool cloche hat (from Banana Republic). When I wore this originally my hair was curly and it looked better then rather than my hair straight.
I got a lot done today, homework wise and finishing my sleeve, cooking, a little bit of cleaning, so it has been a good day. Hopefully I'll be able to fall asleep soon since I have to get up at 5:45 to go to school in the morning. Good night my friends.

Tutorial from Sew, Mama, Sew!

I went to the little fabric store in the town next to mine and got some wonderful midcentury modern fabric to create a laptop sleeve. The tutorial that I found would fit me the best is this wonderful tutorial from Sew, Mama, Sew! If I have time tomorrow (Wednesday) I will be working on it so then I can take it to school on Thursday. :) Needless to say I am excited.
I finally got my withdrawal form done at school today. I was running around campus for a good couple hours going back and fourth and explaining that I'm just transferring to Dallas, not quitting school. It is finally done, after all the hassle that I've gone through for the first couple weeks of trying it is finally turned it. So now it gets down to the more serious stuff, making sure everything is paid off at the Inland Empire campus and getting the needed paper work to Dallas. I will greatly appreciate some prayers on this.
I tried taking pictures on Monday to show my outfit, but it wasn't working out so I'll post pictures later on what I wore put together since I couldn't find my dress on the Forever 21 site. I have a lot to get done tomorrow with school and the things I would like to get done so I am off to bed. Good night everyone.

Flower poster

I figured out how to text wrap in Illustrator and tried it with the cup mess that I was originally going to do but it didn't turn out how I wanted, and since I don't know illustrator well at all I went with the flower. I replaced some of the petals with the definition of rhythm. I thought it turned out pretty good, especially for my first project ever done in Illustrator. Now all I have to do is go print it for Tuesday. :)
If I am up for it, I'll be going to the fabric store so I can finish Darlene's make up bag, start my new laptop sleeve and get fabric to patch up Chris' pants. I hope to open my Etsy shop soon but I am not sure of how all the taxes and all that stuff works and I don't want to mess up and then end up owing the government money for not doing things properly.
EDIT:
I changed the color per Elaine's suggestion and I like it, it connects it all together better. :) What do you think?

Last two days have been hectic

School two days in a row, both days starting at 5:30 and going 90 to nothing, I can officially say that I am exhausted. We started working in illustrator yesterday, happy face! :) And in our in class work this is what I created, or rather everyone did the same thing but I am just so extatic. I have learned some of the basics so I can do my poster that is due on Tuesday.

I have started my transfer process to go back home to my Texas home. I miss it so much out there and can not wait to get back. Yesterday, I looked super cute. I'll post a picture later on so then everyone can see. Which, on that note, I have decided that I am going to be posting on here a lot more and more than just Graphic Design, and school; its going to be on the things that I really enjoy. For example, clothes, shoes, crafts, sewing, cooking, Busa (my lovely puppy doxie), and such things.

Something that I though was pretty interesting happened after my English class on Thursday. My professor asked me where I was from, most people out here in Southern California can't really hear my Texas accent since it is pretty slight and I just sound like a normal person I guess. He actually could here the little accent that I do have, which took me by surprise, but I was glad someone noticed. :)

I am in need of some help with my blog, I would like it to look not so plain and better than it does now. So today I will be working on my blog, after I get some homework done, got to have my priorities in line. :) Hopefully I will be able to update it here soon.

Thumbnails for Principle of Design poster

Just to let y'all know, thumbnails are basically concept drawings, there is little details because it is mainly for ideas and that is what is taken and make a rough from. A rough is more detailed so you can figure out what it is that is exactly wanted to do a figure out the tweaking in order to come up with the final product.

Quick Project - Tote

Last Tuesday I decided last minute that I was going to make a tote, that was better than the bag that I have been using which was black with a purple band on one side. I wanted something with more pattern so I dug into my box of fabric and tried to find something that I had plenty of. I wanted to fit my 14 by 18 sketch book in it but ended up not making it big enough to fit it, but thats okay because thats easy to carry. I made this cute tote.
It is reversible, one side is little bitty flowers (on the left) and the other side is little bitty white polka dots, its hard to see both of what the pattern is exactly.  I can fit my laptop and all my other supplies that I need for class in it so it makes me happy. Eventually I am going to add to it so then it's not just a pattern. But that will be when I have more free time, and we will see when that is lol.

The first week of the winter quarter has came and past, we didn't really learn a whole lot since the first week is when we go over the syllabus for each class and get to know each other. But, I must say that I am stocked for digital illustration. I have wanted to learn how to use illustrator for years.
Tonight in Grid Systems I will be working on my first project of the quarter. I will be making a poster with only graphics and typefaces, that also has to be about one of the principles of design. Once I get it on a computer I shall post what I am doing. :)

Artwork Holder

I have now been through 2 quarters at the Art Institute and in that time I have accumulated art work, with no place to put it. I originally was putting everything by my supplies (which now has no space in it but I'll deal with that one later) and slowly became an eye soar. As you can see to the right. Our apartment isn't too large so there isn't many places to put it, so I decided to put it in a place that not everyone would have to look at it.

Recently Chris bought a box to ship somethings he was selling on eBay, but then ended up not using it because the person who bought it was in our town. Yesterday I choose to take that box and figure out what to make to hold my giant sketch papers.

What I found that would be easiest and hopefully take the least time was to make one of those magazine holders that you can buy at Wal-mart or Ikea, but Giant size. I was going to make a tutorial out of it but I then found out I didn't really know what I was doing. But, I fully put it together yesterday and started covering it with magazine papers and then fully covered it today. I used ads, articles and pictures from Cosmo and Marie Claire and of course they all had something that I liked on them.

Granted it isn't the best looking thing that I have ever created but it was a quick fix to my problem. Later on I will make something out of wood or just something a little more sturdy than cardboard.

I am super excited for this blog. I will be posting things like this and things I will be doing for school and so on and so fourth.
